Dr. Richard Chaffoo possesses an unusual set of credentials: he’s triple board certified. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), having met the following requirements:
- A four year medical degree
- Five years of surgical training (at least two years in plastic surgery)
- Two years of successful private practice
- Passing scores on written and oral exams
ABPS certification means Dr. Chaffoo is qualified to perform cosmetic surgery from head to toe, whether it’s eyelid surgery, breast enhancement or liposuction for San Diego patients.
Prior to becoming APBS certified, Dr. Chaffoo was awarded certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His medical education plus three additional surgical fellowships - focused on Facial Plastic Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery and Burn Surgery - gave him the training and experience required to become triple board certified. Richard Chaffoo, MD, FACS, FICS, a San Diego plastic surgeon, performs liposuction, breast augmentation, face lift and many other procedures for his patients. Dr. Chaffoo knows that cosmetic surgery is a big decision; one that many people take years to make. Richard Chaffoo began his education with a BA in chemistry, awarded summa cum laude, from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He earned his MD from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He joined the U.S. Navy as a medical officer and performed an internship and residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.
After his service in the Navy and his fellowship training at Stanford and UC San Diego, he continued on to complete a Plastic Surgery residency at Oregon Health and Sciences University.
Today, practicing plastic surgery in the San Diego area with offices in La Jolla and Temecula, Dr. Chaffoo is committed to striking the right balance between innovation and traditional, “tried and true” techniques.
