A good candidate for liposuction is close to their ideal body weight, wants to remove specific areas of fat that are diet- and exercise-resistant (fat pockets in the abdomen, arms, knees, inner thighs, love handles, neck, outer thighs) and has good skin tone and elasticity. There are two basic techniques used in liposuction: tumescent and ultrasonic. Both techniques share core surgical elements. SmartLipo is another technique that many doctors offer. You will need to discuss your options with a board certified plastic surgeon. Learn more about liposuction.

An abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure that will remove excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and tighten the abdominal muscles. A mini tummy tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, may be recommended for patients that are within 10% of their ideal body weight. This procedure is less invasive and can be done on an outpatient basis. While a full tummy tuck involves an incision around the navel and across the lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck leaves the navel intact and requires a smaller incision. Learn more about tummy tucks.
