Dr. Dennis Hammond attended the University of Michigan after graduating first in his class from high school and went on to earn his Medical Degree at the same university. After earning his degree, Dr. Hammond was accepted to an integrated plastic surgery training program in Grand Rapids, MI and then completed two year-long, highly competitive fellowships in Plastic Surgery, one which focused on hand surgery and microsurgery. His second fellowship focused on Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery and combined research and clinical practice. Dr. Hammond went on to earn his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is now recognized as one of the leading cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgeons in the world.

Dr. Andrea E. Van Pelt is a board certified plastic surgeon who has trained in some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions and with some of the most internationally renowned surgeons. Dr. Van Pelt is grateful for the privilege of making a positive impact on people’s lives. I had a breast reduction from Dr. Dennis Hammond in May. I have had a huge boost in confidence and feel so much better about myself. It took me years to go ahead with breast augmentation. I had been thinking about it off and on since I was 18 years old. Dr. Hammond was one of three opinions I received when considering surgery. Upon meeting with him I knew immediately he was the one I wanted to do my surgery. Let me explain… I have had two children and breast-fed them both. Age, (I am near forty) combined with the breastfeeding left me with severe sagging. I have always been small breasted but the sagging made me look even smaller. Dr. Dennis Hammond performed immediate reconstructive surgery on me following a bilateral mastectomy. I had been diagnosed with lobular carcinoma in situ and, needless to say, this was a very difficult time for me. I met with Dr. Hammond very early in my decision making process on the recommendation of my general surgeon.

From the first time we met, I had a feeling of confidence in Dr. Hammond. Not only had he come highly recommended, but he took the time to fully explain to me my options and the pros and cons of the different methods of breast reconstruction. Dr. Hammond spent the time necessary for me to completely understand the procedures and showed me examples of other patients at various stages of recovery. Consequently, I felt more prepared for the procedure and for what to expect as I recovered. When the day came for my surgery, I knew that I had made the right decision and that I was in excellent hands that I trusted. I knew he had my best interests at heart.

It was during my recovery period that I gained an enormous respect for the very competent staff that Dr. Hammond has surrounded himself with. No question or concern was too small for Joanie, Dr. Hammond’s scrub nurse. If I called the office with a concern, she’d call back even on days when they were at the hospital with scheduled surgery. Marie and the rest of the office staff were very warm and friendly. I looked forward to going for my post-surgical exams because it was a very supportive atmosphere.
