When Should a Woman Get Breast Revision Surgery?

Board certified plastic surgeons; most likely prepare breast augmentation patients to expect that they will need breast revision surgery at some point in their lives, and for many more than one revision may be necessary.

Most breast implant manufacturers guarantee their breast implants last for the lifetime of the patient. Additionally, many of the manufacturers offer some financial aid toward breast revision surgery for up to 10 years after surgery.

Reasons for breast revision surgery vary. If an implant has deflated or ruptured, it is best to have surgery sooner rather than later. However, many women choose to have breast revision surgery because they are unhappy with the size, the position, or the type of their implants, in these cases, the patient can schedule surgery at her convenience.

As women age, gain or lose weight, they may notice changes in their breasts and will find that revision surgery offers restoration of youthful breasts. Aging and gravity will continue to affect the shape of the breasts for most women necessitating additional breast revision surgery.

Having a copy of the original operative report and the knowing the type and manufacturer of your implants is invaluable information for your breast revision surgeon.
