Dr. Miguel DelgadoBy Miguel Delgado, M.D.

The internet has changed how we get our information. The younger generations probably don’t know that many of us used to go to the library and search through the card catalogs and then hope the book we wanted wasn’t checked out or if we were lucky perhaps we had a set of encyclopedias at home. Even then, the amount of information we found was very limited. Today with the internet, a vast amount of information is at our fingertips.

Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia was almost unheard of just a few years ago. Thanks to some popular television shows, such as Seinfeld, most people now know that it is a condition of enlarged male breasts. Another previously unknown fact is 65% of men suffer from gynecomastia at some point in their life, it may be temporary as with weight gain or going through puberty, but for some, it becomes permanent unless removed by surgery.

San Francisco psychologist, Merle Yost was one who suffered for many years with his enlarged breasts. He was fortunate to discover a remedy, male breast reduction surgery. Getting rid of his enlarged male breasts had such an impact on his life he wanted to help other men. His practice became focused educating men on dealing with the psychological impact having female type breasts. He was also able to inform them that alternatives are available. Yost had great success with helping his patients, but he wanted to reach out beyond his practice, and the idea of an informational website about gynecomastia was born.

The creation of the website was quite an undertaking, Yost was fortunate to get San Francisco Bay Area gynecomastia specialist, Miguel Delgado, M.D. to collaborate with him. In 1996, www.gynecomastia.org was launched.

Gynecomastia.org has been a viable website for almost 20 years, and its popularity continues to grow. It is known as the Web’s best resource for information on gynecomastia. All of the popular search engines direct reader’s to the site as they search for information about their enlarged male breasts.

In 2010, Yost decided to sell the website as the maintenance became too time- consuming for him. The logical person to take it over was Miguel Delgado, M.D. who gladly stepped in with the aim to protect the sites integrity and keep it fresh and updated.

The most popular section of the website is the interactive forums. To participate in the forums, one must register on the site. There is not a fee to become a member, but registration allows the administrators of the site to filter out unwanted insensitive or abusive content. The forums allow members to ask questions of each other and share their stories. The support and information these men get from each other is tremendous. There are Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who specialize in gynecomastia who contribute their time by answering many questions posted by members.

In addition to the forums, there are sections that have scientific articles, blogs, before and after pictures of gynecomastia patients, informative videos, FAQ’s, and a directory of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who specialize in gynecomastia who are located in the United States and abroad.
